A stellar work ethic and willing attitude make him a fun horse to spend your time with! Whether it’s daily or whenever time allows, Maui appreciates all the attention you can give him and never takes it for granted. He can take time off and rides off without any trouble.
Used on a South Dakota ranch for 5 years, Maui is in his happy place when he’s in God’s country. Sure footed, confident alone and steady, he is a treat to ride outside. Used on all ranch duties, he can recognize a full day’s work and knows how to pace himself. He is comfortable in a herd of cattle and carries himself confidently amongst the commotion.
We took him to his first horse show this spring and were blown away with how he adapted to the new environment. By the first afternoon he was ground tying in the corner taking a nap, waiting for his turn in the ring. From conformation, to ranch pleasure and ranch riding, he acted like a seasoned pro. Being shown by youth and adult riders, he navigated the busy ring and chaos with ease. At the end of the weekend he was the Reserve High Point Youth Ranch Horse against tough competition!
He picks you up on the mounting block, stands on the pedestal and crosses the tarp with ease. Crossing bridges, or water, scaling rough country or picking your way through the timber, Maui stays sensible.
We appreciate that he is uncomplicated to ride, he's a point and shoot kind of guy who doesn't need to be peddled to keep going. He's responsive enough that we aren't advertising him as a very beginner horse. He is however a perfect fit for someone who is ready to enjoy his versatility and willingness to please.
Turned out with other horses he blends in beautifully, he is polite and patient. His big brown eyes just make you melt. Horses like him are easy to have around. He is excellent for all the normal care like shoeing, vaccinating and deworming.
At 14.3 he’s an easy size to be around, and get on! With plenty of foot and bone he will stay sound and hold up with no issue.
