If you’re looking for a good, honest gelding that’s already proven himself, I’d like to introduce you to Mouse. Head, Heel, Ranch work, trails, barrels- you name it!
AQHA registered, 8 years old, Standing 15.1hh, this handsome bay gelding has been my personal horse for the last year and a half. The only reason he’s being offered for sale is because I’m looking to step up to something a little more competitive on the head side. Otherwise, Mouse wouldn’t be leaving.
He’s been a big part of our life. We’ve hauled him all over, taken him on camping trips, ridden miles of trails, used him around the ranch, and trusted him to pack our kids around as well. I even won my first team roping saddle aboard Mouse at the USTRC roping!
Mouse is one of those geldings that’s just easy to have around. He’s gentle, has a big personality, and has a kind eye that matches his disposition. He’s upper-middle in the pecking order, he’s used to a mixed herd. He enjoys attention, stands tied quietly, bathes, loads, hauls, and is good for the vet and the farrier.
Under saddle, Mouse has a smooth, comfortable trot that’s easy to sit, and an easy, rocking-chair lope. He moved off your leg, has a nice neck rein, and is soft in the bridle without being overly sensitive. He’s responsive, but he’s on the slower side, and more “whoa than go” type of horse.
Out on the trail, Mouse is confident, sure-footed, and level-headed. He’s crossed creeks, climbed hills, navigated rough terrain, and has been hauled new places. He’s happy riding alone or with a group and is just as enjoyable on a leisurely trail ride as he is putting in a day’s work.
He’s not a spooky type horse, we’ve shot guns off of him, and fireworks too!
Around the ranch, Mouse has been used for pasture roping, doctoring cattle, checking fences, gathering livestock, and loading trailers. He’s the kind of horse that’s handy enough to be useful but quiet enough to enjoy.
He’s also loping a nice barrel pattern. While I wouldn’t advertise him as a future 1D horse, he has the foundation to continue progressing and, more importantly, the willing attitude that makes him enjoyable to ride no matter what you’re doing.
One of the things I’ve appreciated most about Mouse is his consistency. He doesn’t need to be ridden every single day to stay honest. You can saddle him up and go enjoy him without wondering which version of your horse is going to show up. He’s good natured- knows how to take a joke, and he’s just handy to have around.
I will definitely miss my buddy mouse when he sells.
