Bowie - 3yr Mustang, Ranch, Trail Ride or Show!

Meet Bowie, a handsome 3-year-old bay mustang gelding from the Rock Creek Mountain HMA in Wyoming. He is a sturdy horse with great conformation. Standing a stout 14.2 hands, he is a great size for a variety of riders. Bowie is an old soul. He is quiet, sweet-natured, curious, trusting and willing to try new things, and enjoys attention. 

He has come along nicely in just 120 days. We’ve ridden him out alone on the ranch to move cows. He goes out confidently on his own away from other horses. Dogs, kids, and equipment don’t bother him. We joined in on a trail ride at the neighboring guest ranch, and he is comfortable leading, following, or in the middle of the group. He handles rough, rocky terrain and down timber with ease, crosses water and will even ride right into the pond for a swim! 

Bowie has a proven show record! He won the Routt County Ranch Horse Show on August 8th (competing in Ranch Cutting, Individual Cow Work, Ranch Riding, Ranch Horsemanship, and Ranch Trail) taking home $300. Then on August 9th he entered the Routt County Open Horse Show, and in the adult class of 14-18 riders he placed 2nd in Trail, 4th in Western Horsemanship, 6th in Western Pleasure, and won the overall Reserve Champion Mustang buckle! We’ve hauled Bowie to several different arenas, including the Moffat County Ranch Horse Versatility Show on August 3rd (placing 3rd in the Junior Horse division) and the local Gymkhana. He handles the pressures of new places so well, standing around so quietly you’d think he’s been to hundreds of horse shows. 

Bowie is a good mover with smooth gaits and nice transitions. He will lope circles, do simple lead changes, and is developing a nice stop. He side-passes and you can open and close a gate from his back. You can even crack a bull whip while riding him. He has great ground manners, loads and rides well in the trailer, and is good to trim his feet. He has a great foundation in his training and will be able to go in any direction you want to take him!

Bowie is part of the Meeker Mustang Makeover, a 2-day event held September 26-27 in Meeker, CO, including a mustang-only horse show, obstacle course, and freestyle competition, followed by an auction of the horses in the competition. The competition will be live-streamed on Facebook, and interested buyers can register and bid online.
